I can only see a tether being helpful if you can somehow remain in perfect control during a crash or bail-out situation. Otherwise it's just as likely to make a situation much worse rather than better.

I tried to get it when I got my first EUC via a sports insurer, but it was turned down. I don't think anyone can actually get insured for an EUC - in this country at least.
Probably make it even harder to get the wheel out to change the tyre, but I like the idea. I should imagine it'll be pretty robust and easily outlast the wheel!
