I just hope all this information and details went back to Kingsong so they can try and figure out what was the cause and make the changes. It also looks like that wheel had a few crashes under its belt. Something like this happening in the streets of London would put us even further back in getting EUC on the map as a mode of transport.
Andre Mostert yes it was a preproduction model and Hsiang as well as U-S are directly linked to the distributor and KS. And yes, this happening to me in the forrest would throw me back to the middleages in terms of reputation
Well, i had reservations about the magnetic kill switch initially, that had made this wheel a 100% no go for me because I like to hop down large carbs at less than 4mph which risks the switch flying open and cutting out. This , however, is insane.
Now it could just be bad luck on the components; bad durability (it was mentioned that this wheel had had several riders and crashes); Poor quality control; Even sabotage could be an option to look into... but regardless on what it is, this will likely have permenantly destroyed this wheels reputation.
My advice to Kingsong is to admit defeat on this pre production model. Rather than promote the actual production model as a performance wheel, demonstrate what they have learned from the incident and prove to us that steps have been taken to make the Kingsong S20 production model the safest damned wheel on the market. After that, they can release a performance version of the wheel later with all the safety measures in place and keep their well earned reputation in tact.
ReaverOfCheesecake there is no KS s20 any more ... also the preorders have been changed to s22 :-) ... as if riders are dumb enough and after the "upgraded" model. Furthermore KS published a vid on assembly of s 22nd batteries ... no new ideas in that.
In respect of the Kill Switch I would have no worries. Once in motion the kill switch on none of the wheels I tested worked ... i.e. the switch did not shut down the motor. I understand your thoughts tho ... remains somehow scary :-)
Explore Devon Uk Oh yes, I have seen a few years back at the local RC field where a heli went up. It burns like mad. The RC heli was hovering about 3m from the ground after a flight. Small bit of smoke and then flames and heli just melts away. Nuts really. This was a dodgy battery that was puffed and was at the end of its life. Now just think that is a small battery and in the S20 there are loads. One starts it just spreads to the other and each just starts burning.
